Every day more people and celebrities committed to life
Sudden death due to heart problems is the leading cause of death among young people in Western countries and claims the lives of thousands of people a year around the world. This figure, according to forecasts of the World Health Organization, will increase in coming years due to changes in lifestyle habits.
Of course, prevent these problems in fundamental, establishing a healthy and balanced diet, eliminating tobacco and alcohol and doing physical activity, but sometimes prevent is not enough and that's when the existence of semiautomatic defibrillators for non-health personnel (DEA / DESA) in public places, as well as training in the basic techniques of cardiopulmonary recovery (CPR), would save a high percentage of people who suffer cardiac arrest, and that is, act in the 4 first minutes since Unemployment takes place, it is fundamental, but it is usually a totally insufficient time for emergency services to arrive and act. Also, every day there is more personalities who support our project aware of the importance of cardioprotection of public and private spaces
Why is it important to install defibrillators in schools?
In many cases congenital heart diseases are not detected until an incident occurs that is usually serious, so it is important to be prepared to act at this time, having the right material and the necessary training. A few years ago, the Spanish Society of Cardiology already recommended placing an external defibrillator for non-healthcare use in public places where there has been a cardiac event at least every 5 years, in those places where moderate or intense physical activity is carried out or in places where the transit of people is very intense, being the schools and educational centers one of the places where it is advisable to install a defibrillator.
In the countries of northern Europe as well as in North America, it is a common practice not only to have the defibrillator in school, but also to train students, parents and teachers in its use, training in first aid and CPR (resuscitation) cardiopulmonary), something that makes any person of almost any age and at any time can act as a lifeguard and help save a life, as has been seen in cases where even children and young people have practiced CPR on one of their parents or own companions saving their lives.
Many parents and teachers of nurseries, colleges, institutes and universities think that this portable defibrillation device should be used by health professionals, fearing not knowing how to use it, but the DEA / DESA defibrillators have been designed precisely so that anyone with a minimum knowledge of CPR can use it, since the defibrillator itself, being an intelligent device, not only gives instructions to the rescuer with a loud and clear voice of what to do, but also evaluates whether the patient is in cardiac arrest or not, If this cardiac arrest is susceptible to defibrillation and even the size of the patient to provide the appropriate discharge. All this provides an added security not only to reassure the lifeguard who will follow the instructions of the device without being afraid to make mistakes but also so that it can not be used if there is no cardiac arrest, because when it detects and records the heart rate it will NEVER give an electric shock.
How many defibrillators are installed in Spain? How are we in cardio protection?
Unfortunately, Spain is the tail of Europe and Western countries in terms of installing defibrillators in public places and private companies, as well as training, because as we have already mentioned, many countries include these courses in their educational curriculum in a way mandatory The positive side is that thanks to our project and their own efforts, many schools have managed to incorporate a defibrillator in their facilities and have been able to train their staff.
Although we celebrate that more and more centers are joining the campaign, it still seems insufficient, so we want to get this information to all corners of Spain and that all centers know about the Lifeguard project and the possibility of self financing their space cardioprotegido thanks to the solidary campaign for the sale of bracelets that has been so well received since we started it.
In addition, this campaign, in need of the coordination of the center and parents and the collaboration of all, helps to raise awareness among children of the importance of healthy lifestyles and gives them the opportunity to collaborate throughout the process.
From the Lifeguard Project we also offer First Aid courses to parents, so they know how to react before emergencies or emergencies that can occur in everyday life. See a sample in this video.
How to get a defibrillator without making any economic investment?
Of course, for those schools that wish to incorporate the defibrillator and train their staff directly, without waiting to sell the wristbands, we have both the direct purchase and a service of Renting Very attractive with a modest monthly fee. Do not hesitate to ask us for information in this regard without any commitment.
Maintenance of defibrillators, what maintenance does an AED / DESA need?
The DEA / DESA like any electronic device requires a minimum of maintenance, which usually consists of replacing the battery when it is consumed (between 2 and 10, depending on the model and manufacturer) and replacing the electrodes with expiration, since the fixative gel is dried (approximately 2 years according to model) or because it has been used. There are many brands and models of DEA / DESA in the market currently at very competitive prices but whose spare parts reach exorbitant prices, which sometimes makes maintenance difficult for entities, so in the Lifeguard Project we work with high-end defibrillators , durable and reliable that also have totally assumable maintenance.
We also want to include a new promotion in which, through the sale of 100-175 wristbands * of PVN 3,0 €, can acquire a year of comprehensive maintenance, which includes changing patches and batteries for emergency use of the defibrillator and / or expiration and we give them the Certificate (or the renewal in case of expiration) of cardioprotected space together with the signs for its center.
* The number of bracelets varies according to the brand and model of defibrillator that is included in the maintenance. The defibrillators sent as part of the Lifeguard Project have a quota of 100 bracelets.
