The Lifeguard Project and the APTB Firefighters Technical Professional Association have signed an agreement to facilitate the implementation of DEA defibrillators in all fire brigades in Spain.
Firefighters equipped with defibrillators against sudden death, cardioprotected interventions
More than 30.000 cardiac arrests occur in Spain per year, the 80% of these cardiac arrests occur outside the health field and the survival rate before cardiorespiratory arrest does not exceed 7%. It has become clear that such events can occur anywhere and at any time, especially in emergency situations, such as fires, floods, accidents, natural disasters, etc., often involving fire departments, regardless of its size and capacity. It is important that local teams of firefighters and health services use a common terminology / methodology to improve effectiveness in the treatment of out-of-hospital sudden cardiac arrest.
The objective of Proyecto Salvavidas and the Professional Association of Fire Technicians APTB is to achieve early defibrillation in the extrahospital environment, carrying out an approved training in the use of external defibrillators in all national territory, to prepare and respond in such a way that we can save as many lives as possible with the adequate materials for resuscitation successful
Defibrillators to increase survival in emergency situations
The scientific evidence shows us that cardiac arrests with arrhythmias susceptible to defibrillation can be reversed with the immediate use of a defibrator, as long as it is used in the first minutes after cardiac arrest. The high degree of awareness currently existing in Spanish society before the problem of sudden cardiac death, allows the possibility of improving survival expectations, thanks to the rapid intervention of emergency services such as firefighters. Defibrillation by the first interveners trained in SVB (Basic Life Support) and DEA (Automated External Defibrillator) is covered by the legislation in Royal Decree 365 / 2009 and medical authorities. This legislative support has allowed the use of defibrillators to be extended by non-health personnel.
Use of defibrillators by firefighters in Spain and the rest of Europe
Although in Spain the use of the defibrillator by the fire brigades is still rare, it is increasing. Every day more bodies of firefighters from different towns and autonomous communities acquire defibrillators as part of their emergency intervention team. In the following European countries, its implementation is a success, favoring public access to early defibrillation. Some of these countries are: Slovak Republic, United Kingdom, Sweden, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Hungary, Holland, Ireland, Italy, Switzerland.
Defibrillators ZOLL AED 3 with real help for resuscitation
Victims of sudden cardiac arrest (PCS) need high quality CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) to keep as much blood circulating as possible to vital organs such as the kidneys, brain and heart. Research has shown that ZOLL defibrillators equipped with Real Help for CPR, a technology that provides real-time feedback for the depth and rhythm of compressions, combined with training in the use of the defibrillator and training resuscitation maneuvers , more than doubled the chances of surviving a cardiac arrest. The ZOLL AED 3 defibrillators were designed on the basis of years of research about the use by rescuers and trained / untrained firefighters, a defibrillator resistant and anti-shock, with ability to operate in the worst conditions. A reliable and safe defibrillator used by rescue teams around the world.
Collaboration agreement between the APTB and the Lifeguard Project
El Lifeguard Project We are the main cardioprotection initiative in Spain with more than 11.000 cardioprotected entities. The purpose is to place our country at the height of cardioprotection in other European countries. As "cardioprotection of spaces" is understood the installation of defibrillators in the greatest number of places, vehicles, company or entities, including the maintenance thereof, the signage and showcase for the correct location of the defibrillator, cardioprotection requires training in Basic Life Support and use of defibrillators by employees or people related to that space, cardioprotection includes the adaptation and registration of the defibrillator, a requirement required by the different Spanish Autonomous Communities.
The Lifeguard Project in coordination with APTB we have signed a agreement to favor the implementation of DEA defibrillator programs in all fire brigades at the national level. Through this agreement the fire brigades can access special discounts, both for the acquisition of the defibrillator (Zoll AED 3), as well as training in the use of the defibrillator throughout the national territory, training in CPR and use of defibrillators. Zoll AED 3, the defibrillator preferred by rescue teams around the world, all with the benchmark in the brigades of firefighters in the US and UK.
The past 13, 14 and 15 days of March were present at the Malaga fair where it was possible to implement cardiopulmonary resuscitation maneuvers and the use of our ZOLL defibrillators, CPR maneuvering practices with state-of-the-art mannequins.
