Would you know how to use a defibrillator to save a life?

Every year 30.000 people in Spain die from cardiorespiratory arrest, having a defibrillator is the only element that can save a life. Instructions to act in case of having to use an external defibrillator, our intervention in the next 5 minutes is decisive to not leave sequelae.

If you had a cardiac arrest, would you know how to use an external defibrillator?

When a cardiorespiratory arrest occurs, we have between 5 and 7 minutes to act, enough time for the emergency teams to arrive, that is why it is essential that the entire population in general know that using a defibrillator we can save a life.

Faced with a cardiac arrest the first thing we should do is call medical emergencies to the 112, once we call the 112 they will not say the steps to follow. Take the defibrillator from its location and place it next to the victim.

A defibrillator is simple to use and even a child would know how to use it, it is a portable medical device that is not connected to the electrical network, but carries a lithium battery of its own, a device that can be moved anywhere.

Simply opening the defibrillator will automatically start and tell us the steps we should follow.

Adif installs external defibrillators in railway stations in Catalonia, Andalusia, Aragon and Madrid

Adif installs external defibrillators in the main railway stations of Catalonia, in total there are 23 defibrillators distributed by the train stations of Andalusia, Aragon, Catalonia and Madrid.

Adif has decided to install external defibrillators in its high-speed stations as a matter of corporate social responsibility and provide a service to users of commuter and high-speed trains, after all any person who is in the railway station can suffer a Cardiorespiratory arrest and having a defibrillator nearby can help you save your life.

Only the 7% of Spaniards know how to use an external defibrillator

The public in general does not know what an external defibrillator is and how to use it, the ignorance about its function and use is one of the reasons why the Lifeguard project collaborates in the information and dissemination of the importance of having and knowing how to use a defibrillator. The automated external defibrillators DEA and semi automatic are designed so that anyone can use them, the Spanish Society of Cardiology promotes a training project in basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

In Spain, only 7% of the population knows how to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation, in Finland the 80% of the population if they know how to use them, perform first aid training in schools.
